Khzhonshchevsky, Anthony

Anthony Khzhonshchevsky (in the old Russian sources Khrshonshchevsky , Polish. Antoni Chrząszczewski ; 1770 - 1854 ) - Polish memoirist.

For many years he served at the court of Stanislav Shchensny Pototsky in Tulchin . In 1830 - 1831 participated in the Polish uprising with the rank of second lieutenant; on March 8, 1831 he was awarded the Golden Cross of the Order of Virtuti Militari .

In old age, he lived in the estate of the landowner Golovinsky Steblev , writing memoirs that remained unfinished. In 1857, these memoirs were partially published by Jozef Kraszewski . The abridged Russian translation, prepared by I. I. Rolle , was published in 1874 in the journal Russian Archive ; as Rolle pointed out, in advance of the publication, the manuscript of Khzhonshchevsky is a valuable testimony of the life of Pototsky and the various significant people who met him, since the author of the memoirs “could see a lot and know a lot about what an outsider would not be able to notice” [1] . A full scientific publication, entitled “Memoirs of the Potocki Employee from Tulchin” ( Polish: Pamiętniki oficjalisty Potockich z Tulczyna ), was carried out in Poland in 1976 .
