Biography
Harney was born into the family of a road boss in Lorraine . He studied evangelical theology in Bonn and Greifswald . From 1906 he was a priest in Greifswald, from 1908 in Stettin , and from 1912 to 1950 in Düsseldorf. From 1929 to 1933 he was a member of the provincial church council in the Rhine region , and during the years of National Socialism , he was a member of the Confessional Church . After the transformation of the evangelical church in 1945, he became superintendent , and from 1946 to 1948 - a member of the supreme church council and elected president of the evangelical church of the Rhine region.
Rewards
in 1953 he was awarded the highest award of Germany - the Big Cross .
