Born in Kherson in 1856.
From the nobles of the Kherson province . Father - Otto Fedorovich von Elsner , court adviser, inspector of schools of the Kherson province. [1] Mother - nee Gauenschild, daughter of F. M. Gauenschild , director of the Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum . The elder brother is Elsner, Konstantin Ottovich , the Russian military leader, major general.
