History
In 1946, the Calico town appeared near Lake Hummi , the first settlers of the future village of Bolshaya Kartel lived in tents. A bakery, a shop, workshops, a railway station were built near the lake. Logging and agriculture for a long time were the main occupation of the villagers.
A military facility was built 2.8 km west of the village in the mid-70s - the Duga-2 radio reception center of the over-the - horizon radar anti - missile defense system, and a 55419 military station in the village itself. Air Defense Division military unit 31458G. In the military camp, 6 residential five-story houses, a school and a kindergarten were built. Currently, the military units disbanded, a unique radar dismantled.

Geography
The village of Bolshaya Kartel is located near the Khabarovsk-Komsomolsk-on-Amur highway (41 km), about 30 km from Komsomolsk bridge .
There is a railway and bus service to the district and regional centers. Station Cartel Far Eastern Railway .
About 2 km south of the village is Lake Hummi (right bank of the Amur ).
