The Australian version of the CD was released in March 1977 [2] on the Albert Productions label , international in June 1977, on the Atlantic Records label . The international edition differs from the Australian only by one song - “Crabsody in Blue” is replaced by a shortened version of the song “Problem Child”, previously published on the album Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (“Crabsody in Blue” was published in 2009 on the Backtracks compilation).
About the album
“I watched as Let There Be Rock recorded. They played on emotions, did not strive for technical excellence. They could play as long as George [Young] didn’t say: “I think you’ve got the right mood now.” It could have been five minutes, maybe ten. Do not forget, there were no drum machines , one-click recordings, nothing. They only had a jackhammer in the face of Phil Rudd . ”
- Graeme Bidstrup (" The Angels " [2] )
The band's previous album disappointed the label Atlantic , and the contract with AC / DC was terminated. However, with the assistance of the head of the Atlantic branch of London, Phil Carson (appealing to the sales level of High Voltage debut), the group was taken back. Bass player Mark Evans described the mood of the band in the following way: “We were really furious. This has not been discussed. We were going to record a hit album and shove it into them ... " [2] .
Angus Young recalled the smoke coming from the amplifier while recording the title track: “George yelled:“ Don't stop! ”The amplifier lasted until the end of the song, and then melted” [2] .
Let There Be Rock is the latest edition of the band, which was recorded by bass guitarist Mark Evans (later replaced by Cliff Williams ). The fingers on the cover of the Australian edition belong to Chris Turner of the Australian rock band Buffalo [2] .
In April 1977, the band recorded a live performance of the song “Dog Eat Dog”, on the Australian TV show “Countdown”, and in July of the same year, a video was shot on the title track of the album.
In 1980, the band released an AC / DC video : Let There Be Rock , which contained a recording of a concert in Paris , on December 9, 1979 (one of the last concerts featuring Bon Scott who died two months later) and interviews with band members. An audio version of this concert Let There Be Rock: The Movie was released in 1997 as "Disc 2" and "Disc 3" of the Bonfire box set.
The Australian release of the album was greeted by critics and hardly entered the Australian Top-20 [2] . In the US charts , the disc has risen to 154th place [2] [3] , to 17th in the UK [4] . The album reached the highest level of sales in the USA and was given twice the platinum status from the RIAA for a circulation of more than 2 million copies, in December 1997 . [five]
