The genome contains one molecule of negative linear RNA . The virion is spherical, with a diameter of 100-130 nm.
The causative agent was first described in the genus, a species of Borna disease virus , which was renamed Mammalian 1 bornavirus in 2015 [3] . The genus is named after the German city of Born , where in 1885 a massive mortality of horses occurred from a disease caused by this virus [4] .
The Born disease virus is found in the blood of people suffering from mental disorders such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective psychosis, etc. [5]
Content
Description
The genome of boronaviruses is approximately 8.9 kilobases. The similarity of the nucleotide sequence and the structure of the open reading frame indicates affinity for Rabdoviridae . There are six open reading frames in boronaviruses: N - nucleoprotein (p40), P - phosphoprotein (p24), M - matrix protein (gp18), G - envelope protein (gp94), L - RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (p190), X - function not known (p10).
Genome
These viruses infect parrots, canaries, squirrels and other species. According to GenBank, from 1994 to 2016, genomes of at least 19 species were sequenced: [1]
- The Borna disease virus 1 genome was sequenced in the USA in 1994. Size: 8910. [2]
- The Borna disease virus 2 genome was sequenced in the United States in 2001. Size: 8908. [3]
- Genome Parrot bornavirus 7 sequenced in the United States in 2016. Size 8901. [4]
Infection
Penetration into the cell is carried out by endocytosis . GP84 is involved in attachment to the cell surface, in the pH-dependent compound GP43. Bornaviruses are the only representatives of the Mononegavirales order that replicate in the nucleus of the host cell. The specific mechanisms of replication and splicing have not been studied.
Classification
As of March 2018, 8 species are included in the genus [6] :
- Elapid 1 orthobornavirus
- Mammalian 1 orthobornavirus typus [ syn. Borna disease virus (BDV)] - Borna disease virus [2]
- Mammalian 2 orthobornavirus
- Passeriform 1 orthobornavirus
- Passeriform 2 orthobornavirus
- Psittaciform 1 orthobornavirus
- Psittaciform 2 orthobornavirus
- Waterbird 1 orthobornavirus
