Biography

The son of an economist and polyglot A.F. Geisman .

After graduating from the Chisinau Gymnasium with a gold medal, he entered the 2nd Konstantinovsky Military School , from which in 1872 he was released as ensign to the St. Petersburg Life Guards Regiment .

In 1876 he participated in the Serbo-Montenegrin-Turkish war (he was the commander of the battalion of the Serbian police in the Timoko-Moravian army, General M. G. Chernyaev ) and in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. : participated in hostilities near Plevna, in crossing the Balkans and in several battles and skirmishes of the detachment of General Gurko, for the difference in which he was awarded the Order of St. Anna of the 4th degree and the Order of St. Stanislav of the 3rd degree with a sword and bow.

In 1878-1881 he studied at the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff , which he graduated in the 1st category. He served in the General Staff at the troops and as a teacher of tactics at the Elisavetgrad cavalry school.

In 1892, for his dissertation: “The parallel between the Prussians invasion of Bohemia in 1757 and 1866. The reasons for the failure of the Austrians at the Bohemian theater of war in 1866” received the title of Extraordinary Professor of the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff, and from 1894 to 1907 he was an ordinary professor military history at this academy. In 1900 he was promoted to major general, in 1902 he was awarded the title of Honored Professor.

In 1907 he was promoted to lieutenant general and appointed head of the 44th Infantry Division , and 03/31/1911 - commander of the 16th Army Corps .

From April 14, 1913, he was a general from infantry, and since January 1915 he was the chief commander of the Kazan Military District .

After the October Revolution, he remained in Petrograd, taught at St. Petersburg University - privat-docent of Petrograd University; also worked in the Unified State Archival Fund - an employee of the 3rd section.

He died on January 27, 1919 in Petrograd .

P. A. Geisman is one of the authors of the Polovtsev Russian Biographical Dictionary .
