Mitava Railway

The Mitava Railway (the names are Riga-Mitava , Riga-Mitava ) are one of the railways of the Russian Empire , built in 1867-1873 in Kurland province with private capital funds - the Mitava Railway Society. Since 1894 - breech. The length is 127.2 versts.

Road History

  • On June 9, 1867, a concession was issued to a joint-stock company consisting of representatives of the local aristocracy and wealthy merchants (Count Palen, Baron Gan, A. Tillo, etc.)
  • On November 21, 1868, traffic began from Torensberg station (on the left bank of the Western Dvina) to Mitava (39 miles long).
  • According to the new Charter of the Mitava Railway Society, approved on March 18, 1872, it was allowed to extend the road to Art. Mozheki Libava Railway.
  • On November 1, 1873, traffic from Mitava to the Mozheki station (88 miles) was opened.
  • April 1, 1894 purchased by the state treasury.
  • Since 1896 , as part of the Riga-Oryol Railway .
