The Yuri Kazakov Prize is the literary prize of the New World magazine , established in 2000 in honor of the Soviet writer Yuri Kazakov , on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of his birth and the twentieth anniversary of his death. Declared as a prize for the best story of the year in Russia. The competition was open to all print publications in Russian, but according to its results, the authors won only over Moscow thick magazines (mainly the New World itself, as well as the Banner ) [1] .
The prize was coordinated by Andrey Vasilevsky, editor- in -chief of the New World magazine. In addition, to control the premium decisions, the jury included at least two members of the New World editorial board (one of them was appointed chairman of the jury). [2] [3] [4]
Prize them. Yuri Kazakov was funded by a charitable reserve fund. [5] In 2012, the award was suspended, according to the organizers, “for technical reasons”. [five]

Criticism
The award has been criticized for not reflecting the state of short prose in Russian, for the incompetence of the jury's assessments and guild corruption (“mezhdusoboychik”) [1] [4] [8] .
The usual for the state of the modern premium situation is an intercession: Andrei Vasilevsky (the chief editor of the New World and the curator of the award) and Sergey Chuprinin (the chief editor of the Banner) simply cut off the biggest pieces of the long list of pie. Well, bon appetit, but does their choice and the choice of a respected expert jury reflect the state of "little prose"? [one]
In 2010, in New York , an alternative award for story was established for Russian-speaking authors from around the world, with an attempt at an independent literary evaluation of works [9] - the O. Henry Prize “The Gifts of the Magi” .
