Makonkalns parish

Makonykalna volost ( Latvian: Mākoņkalna pagasts ) is one of twenty-five territorial units of the Rezekne region of Latvia . Located in the southern part of the region, on the shores of Lake Raznas . It borders on the Malt , Luznava , Kaunat , Chernaya and Pushskaya volosts of its region, as well as the Andzelskaya and Andrupen volosts of the Dagda region .

The largest settlements of the volost are villages: Lipushki (volost center), Krepshy, Zelenka, Berezniki, Grumuzhi, Melteni, Stikuti, Kozulishki, Zelenpole.

Along the coast of Lake Razna, in the northern part of Makonkalnsky volost, bypassing the village of Lipushki, passes the regional highway P56 Malta - Kaunata [2] .

Most of the volost territory is located on the Latgale Upland . A few kilometers south of the village of Lipuska is the Makonkalns hill, the third highest peak in Latgale (altitude: 247.9 m).

Part of the territory of the parish is occupied by the Raznas National Park .

The rivers Kazupe and Malta flow through the territory of the volost. Of the large lakes - Raznas , Boltays, Ilsas, Kaugurs, Krakuezers, Salais, Stibraisa, Viraudas.

History

In the Middle Ages, on the Maconkalns hill, there was the Volkenberg castle of the Livonian Order .

In 1945, the Zosna village council was established in the Maltese parish of Rezekne county . After the cancellation of the volost division in 1949, it was part of the Maltese (1949-1959) and Rezekne districts.

In 1957, the territory of the liquidated collective farm “Sarkanays carogs” of the Dorotpol village council was annexed to the Zosnsky village council. In 1959 - part of the liquidated Lipush village council. In 1963 - the territory of the collective farm "March 8" of the Pushsky Village Council. In 1971, the territory of the "Malta" state farm was transferred to the Spelsky Village Council, in the same year the Zosnsky Village Council was renamed the Makonkalnsky Village Council [3] .

In 1990, the Makonkalnsky Village Council was reorganized into a parish. In 2009, at the end of the Latvian administrative and territorial reform, the Makonkalns parish became part of the Rezekne Territory.
