Northern and Southern California Megaregions
Sansan ( born SanSan , abbreviated from the San Francisco-San Diego highway) is one of the largest coastal agglomerations in the world, with a population of over 40 million people [Note. 1] (that is, over 12% of the US population), originally stretching from San Francisco through the chain of centers of the Great California Valley to Los Angeles and further to San Diego , with a total length of about 790 km, and later including the more southern and more northern territories. Located in the states of Nevada and California (USA) and Baja California (Mexico), it includes many agglomerations . As a densely populated megaregion, Sansan was formed by the beginning of the 1950s and is the youngest of American megalopolises. In the United States itself, in connection with the expansion of the network of roads in California, SanSan is officially referred to as California megapolitan areas . Hypothetically, the transformation of Sansan from many districts and metropolitan areas into a single administrative-territorial unit within the North American Union is possible [1] .
Forecasts of the Second Half of the 20th Century
According to some Western futurologists of the 1970s , by the year 2000, 150 million Americans (i.e. half of the US population expected by then) should have lived in three giant megalopolises: in Boswash (from Boston to Washington ), Chipitts ( from Chicago to Pittsburgh ) and Sansan (from San Francisco to San Diego) [2] . Separate forecasts about the imminent over-urbanization of Sansan were made in the late 60s , for example, the famous Americanist A. V. Efimov predicted an increase in the population of Sansan to 45 million before the onset of the 80s [3] .
Sansana Composition
The structure includes a total of 56 counties and municipalities, 46 in California, 6 in Nevada and 4 in Baja California. 26 out of 56 are part of combined statistical areas in California and 5 metropolitan areas in Nevada, while the remaining six are part of cross-border metropolitan areas :
