Xanre is located 55 km southeast of Metz on the border of the departments of Meurthe Moselle and Moselle. Neighboring communes: Marsal in the northeast, Lese in the east, Bezange-la-Petit in the southeast, Resicur-la-Petit in the south, Juvrecourt in the southwest, Muayyanvik and Vic-sur-Sey in the northwest.
This is a rural settlement whose inhabitants are engaged in meat and dairy farming and wheat cultivation. To the north of Xanre flows the Nar, a tributary of this river.
History

- The settlement was founded in 521. In the X century, it was transferred by his lord of the church of Saint-Sauveur in Metz, which was confirmed in 1050.
- In 1255, Xanre was first mentioned, annexed to the parish of Muayyanvik and dependent on the bishops of Metz and Tula .
- In 1790, Ksanre was part of the canton of Arracurcu, which later entered the canton of Vic-sur-Sey.
- In 1871, Ksanre under the Frankfurt Treaty ceded to the German Empire and received the Germanized name Schenris . In 1918, after the defeat of Germany in World War I, it again became part of France in the Moselle department.
- During World War II, in the fall of 1944, the surroundings of Xanre became the scene of the battle of Arracur .
