Biography

Born on August 19 ( September 1 ) 1917 in the village of Trufantsevo, now Borisoglebsky district, Yaroslavl region, in a peasant family. Russian He graduated from elementary school, worked on a collective farm .

In 1938 he was drafted into the Red Army . Member of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941. In 1942 he was admitted to the CPSU (b) . For steadfastness, courage and courage in the Oryol-Kursk battle he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree.

During the breakthrough of enemy defenses and during the offensive, the gun of Senior Sergeant Bazhanov was always in the front lines of the infantry. Accurate fire artillery provided the advancement of rifle units.

On June 29, 1944, in a battle near the village of Gorshkovo ( Shklovsky District, Mogilev Region ), Bazhanov’s crew crushed three enemy machine guns and infantry, supported by artillery fire, quickly took up the enemy’s fortified positions. Two infantry battalions, ten heavy tanks and two self-propelled guns launched a counterattack on the positions of our units.

Reflecting the onslaught of the enemy, Senior Sergeant Bazhanov destroyed the Ferdinand self-propelled artillery mount and more than sixty Nazis. When the shells ran out and the enemy tanks broke through to the firing position, with an anti-tank grenade threw himself under the tank.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 22, 1944, for the exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown to this, senior sergeant Bazhanov Alexander Vasilievich was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
