The building , located on the Market Square in Old Schwerin , has been known since 1338 . It is assumed that originally it was a Gothic building with a pointed spire . However, the town hall, along with the neighboring buildings, was badly damaged by the fires of 1531 and 1558 . As a result, in 1567 - 1575 the new building was built in the Renaissance style . [1] [2] The facade of the Town Hall took on a modern look in the 19th century according to the design of Georg Adolf Demmler . [3]

Since 1998, the City Council and City Hall moved to a new building. [4] In 2000 - 2001 Overhaul of the interior was carried out . Today the building is the office of Stadtmarketing Gesellschaft Schwerin GmbH .
