Biography
Born June 26, 1758 in Schleiz . Studied in Leipzig.
In 1803 he published the Atlas of the Whole Globe, etc., on six tables of gnomonic projection; this work is still one of a kind. Less successful are his maps of the Alps and the Himalayas; his works in the field of ancient geography do not withstand criticism, although his "Atlas of the Ancient World" (Nuremberg, 1824 and 1853) withstood two editions. He published several more atlases and maps, as well as Geographische Nachweisungen der Krie gsvorfälle Cä sars in Gallien (Leipzig, 1832) and others.
