
Maurice Chappaz ( fr. Maurice Chappaz , December 21, 1916 , Lausanne - January 15, 2009 , Martigny ) - Swiss poet, prose writer, translator, wrote in French.

Biography
He graduated from a private school at the Abbey of St. Mauritius in the canton of Valais . He entered the Faculty of Law of the University of Lausanne , then transferred to the Faculty of Philology of the University of Geneva , but a few months later left him. The first steps of Schappase in literature were supported by Charles Ferdinand Ramu and Gustave Roux , with the latter he was friends and corresponded until his death.
In 1942 he met Korina Biy , whom she married in 1947 , they had three children. He traveled to Europe and the world, visited Lapland, Tibet, Russia ( 1974 and 1979 ) and China, Lebanon, the USA and Canada. He was engaged in journalism, devoted much effort to ecology, changed several professions, take-off times gave way to periods of severe depression.
After the death of Corina, Biy in 1979 was engaged in the publication of her legacy, translated Virgil and Theocritus . Schappase's books have been illustrated more than once by major artists, more often than others by Gerard de Palezieu .

He has received several awards in Switzerland and France, including the Valais canton award for the totality created ( 1985 ) and the Swiss Schiller Prize ( 1997 ). Commander of the Order of Arts and Literature ( 2001 ).
