History
In 1907, a private French Indochinese bank received the right to issue banknotes for French Somalia. Until 1945, the bank issued banknotes in francs, and since 1945 - in CFA francs . On March 20, 1949, the Djibouti franc was introduced. Banknotes were issued by the Treasury of France, and since 1971, by the Treasury of Djibouti.
On December 3, 1977, the Central Bank of Djibouti was established, to which the functions of the issuing institute were transferred [1] .
