Libby Riddles ( born April 1, 1956 , Madison , Wisconsin , USA ) is the first woman to win the 1985 American Iditarod Dog Sled Race in Alaska .

In 1973, Libby Riddles left Wisconsin for Alaska. Here she became interested in sledding, sled dogs , the ability of mushers to manage dog teams. After some time, one of Libby's friends convinced her to try her hand at this extreme sport. Dog sled racing appealed to Riddle and she began to train to participate in Iditarod.
In 1978, she took part in the Clines Mini Mart Sprint racing and won first place. After the end of the Iditarod race in 1980-1981, Libby took 18th and 20th place. Since the first attempts did not bring success, she decided that in order to achieve it, she would have to breed and train her own dogs. Libby and her partner Joe Garney began to breed special sled dogs and prepare them for racing in Alaska.
To participate in Iditarod you need a team of 16 dogs and a musher . The total length of the races, lasting from 8 to 15 days, is 1868 km. Races will start from Willow (near Anchorage ) to Nome .
As a result, on March 20, 1985, covering 1161 miles through snowstorms and snowstorms, Libby Riddle became the first woman to become the champion in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog RaceIditarod.
After winning the Iditarod for 6 years, she lived in Alaska among the Eskimos . She was engaged in literary work, wrote three books about the dog sled race, including:
