Viking Press is an American book publisher. Since 1975, he has been a member of the Penguin Group Publishing Group . It was founded in New York on March 1, 1925 by Harold Ginsburg and George Oppenheim . The name and logo of the company is a Viking boat painted by Rockwell Kent . It was assumed that they would arouse ideas about discoveries and entrepreneurship associated with the image of the Vikings and the word “Viking” itself.

The publishing house has become native to many prominent writers, publicists and screenwriters. Five authors published in the Viking Press were awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature , and one received the Nobel Peace Prize . Viking Press has also received numerous Pulitzer Prizes , the US National Book Award, and other important literary awards.
By 2011, Viking Press is publishing an average of about 100 books a year. The publishing house is famous for publishing commercially successful works of art, as well as academic literature and journalism. Penguin Books publishes academic paperbacks and Signet Books or Putnam Books sell commercial fiction. The president of Viking Press is currently Clare Ferraro .
The Viking Children's Book, a children's literature division, was established in 1933. The editor during the founding was May Massey . One of the imprints of this unit is Viking Kestrel. Books issued by this division have won the Caldecott and Newbury medals. Among the children's works published are such as “Twenty-one Balloons” by William Penet Dubois (1947, Newbury Medal of 1948), “Cordura” , “Give Way to Ducklings” , “Nasty Cheesy Man” (1993), “Outcasts” , “Peppy” Longstocking " , " History of Ferdinand .
