Biography

Kuneva graduated from the Sofia University Law Faculty in 1981. In 1984 she became a doctor of law.

In 2002-2006, Meglena Kuneva held the post of Minister for European Affairs. In 2007-2009 she became the first European Commissioner from Bulgaria, she held the position of European Commissioner for Consumer Protection.

In the past, she represented the National Stability Movement .

In the presidential election of 2011 ranked third.

Since 2012, she has been the chairman of the liberal party “Bulgaria for citizens”, which was one of the founders of the Reform bloc in 2013.

On November 7, 2014, she occupied the position of Deputy Prime Minister for European Policy Coordination and Institutional Issues in the second government, Boyko Borisova [2] . From February 3, 2016 she combined this position with the post of Minister of Education and Science.

Relationship to the Pyrim family

Meglena Kuneva’s husband, Andrei Prymov, is the son of a prominent functionary of the BKP, Ivan Prymov , who initiated the execution of the strikers in Plovdiv on May 4, 1953 . Kuneva's kinship with the late Prymov Sr. is often used by her political opponents as a compromising stroke [3] [4] .
