Development and Creation History
Dornier Do 23 was developed on the basis of the predecessor Dornier Do 11 and was routinely called Dornier Do 13, which was subsequently changed to Dornier Do 23 due to the superstition of pilots [1] . The aircraft was equipped with a closed engine of the BMW VI series, the aircraft inherited the fuselage , wings and tail from its predecessor. The only design changes were flaps designed to improve landing performance.
In production, the aircraft was spelled: the first aircraft released was called 23A, the second 23B, and so on until 23G, when the production of the aircraft was launched in series. The letters after the number do not indicate the series, aircraft A, B, C, D, E, F and G are absolutely identical in their characteristics [1] . In total, from 1934 to 1935, 282 aircraft of this modification were produced, 273 of them were sent to military units, and the remaining 9, as well as aircraft A, C, E and F, were used for testing. In 1936, Do 17G was replaced by Do 17 . In addition to Dornier, Henschel and Blohm & Voss also took part in the production of aircraft, each with 24 aircraft each.
During World War II, modified Dornier Do 23Gs were used to find minefields . Several aircraft were used to test chemical weapons . In 1941, Do 23 participated in the fighting in the Baltic, and two Do 23 were transferred to the Hungarian Air Force , where they were used as transport . [2]
