Lecturer at Moscow Power Engineering Institute and Moscow Engineering Physics Institute , author of numerous special courses on the theory and methods of calculating nuclear power plants.
Conducted computational research on fast neutron reactors. He was engaged in the development of analytical methods for calculating reactors, the problem of neutron transfer in moving media. He developed a new direction in the theory of reactors - the mathematical theory of nuclear reactors, which became the basis for studying the linear and nonlinear dynamics of nuclear reactors.

Biography
Sergei Borisovich Shikhov was born in 1912 in the family of the composer Boris Andreyevich Shikhov, a friend of the famous Russian composer Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninov .
Sergei Borisovich Shikhov began his career in 1929 after graduating from high school as a design engineer at the Stankolit plant. In 1932 he entered the evening Moscow Engineering Institute, after graduating from 1937, he worked as a design engineer at defense industry plants. In 1946 he switched to teaching at the Department of Thermophysics of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute .
In 1949-1952 he studied at the graduate school of MPEI . After defending his dissertation, he worked as a senior researcher at the Physics and Energy Institute, together with teaching at the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute .
In 1952-1962 he taught at the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute and at the same time worked at the Physics and Power Engineering Institute in Obninsk, where, under the general supervision of Alexander Ilyich Leipunsky, he dealt with a set of important problems related to the design and calculation of new then fast nuclear neutron reactors, with development of the theory and methods for calculating the neutron-physical and other characteristics of nuclear reactors, with the creation and implementation of effective engineering methods for calculating these characteristics in the calculation practice.
In 1967 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Design Studies of Fast Nuclear Reactors". Since 1968, he was approved as a professor.
Since 1976, he was the supervisor of the MEPhI Problem Research Laboratory "Nuclear Power Plants".
He was buried at Vvedensky cemetery [1] .
He was awarded the USSR State Prize in Science ( 1987 ), and was awarded medals.
School of Science
In the process of scientific and pedagogical activity of the scientist, a scientific school was formed in the field of mathematical theory and methods for calculating nuclear reactors, which includes dozens of specialists working in leading research centers of the nuclear industry ( NRNU MEPhI , NRC “Kurchatov Institute” , NTC NRS , NIIAR , IBRAE , NITI named after A.P. Aleksandrov ).
Literary and musical creativity
S. B. Shikhov wrote poetry and composed musical compositions for piano.
