Biography
She began training at the age of 8, from an early age she was able to compete with adult athletes. At the Olympic Games in Berlin (1936), at the age of 12 years and 24 days, she won a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke, for which she was named the media "Little Charming Inge". And since then she remains the youngest participant in the individual competitions. This event served as the starting point for a discussion about the need for age restrictions for competitors. Upon her return to her homeland, thousands of compatriots welcomed her.
She became the 9-time champion of Denmark (1936-1944), the winner of the Scandinavian Games (1937 and 1939); European champion (1938) at a distance of 200 m. She set 4 world and 14 national records in swimming breaststroke at various distances.
In 1946 she graduated from Ester Berners Institut , worked as a swimming and gymnastics coach. Having married, she first moved to South Africa, then - to Canada , in 1951 - to the USA , continuing her coaching career.
