Biography
Consisted of a professor of natural history at the Pennsylvania University. and prof. zoology at the Philadelphia Museum, then moved to Indiana , where he joined the sect of harmonists and devoted all his free time to the study of insects. Say's merits in this subject are so great that he received the nickname "father of American entomology."
Say's scientific works concern, in addition to entomology and conchology, American fauna. He published the following major works: "Descriptions of Coleopterous Insects collected in the Expedition to the Rocky Mountains" ( 1823 - 1824 ); “American Entomology etc.” ( Philadelphia , 3 vols., 1823 - 1828 ); "American Conchology or description of the shells of North America" (4 hours, New Harmony, 1830 - 1832 ) and many others. other
