Biography
Born August 30, 1974 in a family of teachers. Baptized in infancy. From childhood to admission to the Moscow Theological Seminary, he was a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection of the Slovyushchiy, in Bryusov Lane in Moscow .
Before entering the seminary, he was a novice with Metropolitan Pitirim (Nechaev) of Volokolamsk and Yuryev, participating in restoration work at the Joseph-Volotsky Monastery at the age of 16 and managing a small monastery choir [1] .
In 1991 he graduated from high school in Moscow and in the same year entered the Moscow Theological Seminary.
During his studies at the MDS, he carried singing obedience in the MDAiS choir and regency obedience in the Moscow Church of the Conception of the Righteous Anna, which is in the Corner , in Zaryadye .
In 1993 he graduated from the seminary, and in 1994 entered the Moscow Theological Academy .
March 31, 1995 in the Trinity Cathedral of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, rector of the Moscow Theological Schools, Bishop of Dmitrov Filaret (Karagodin) was tonsured a monk with the name John in honor of St. John Climacus .
On April 18, 1995, in the Pokrovsky academic church of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, Bishop Evgeny (Reshetnikov) of Berez Vereisky was ordained a hierodeacon .
While studying at the MDA, he carried obedience in the Church and Archaeological Office at the MDAiS.
In 1998, he graduated from the Moscow Academy of Arts, defending his Ph.D. thesis at the Department of Church Archeology on the topic "Traditions of Church Sewing in Russia", after which he served in Moscow churches until 2001.
On February 25, 2001, he was admitted to the Diocese of Rivne and appointed a regular clergyman of the Resurrection Cathedral of the city of Rivne .
March 31, 2001 in the Resurrection Cathedral of the city of Rivne, Archbishop of Rivne and Ostrog Bartholomew (Vashchuk) was ordained hieromonk , after which he served as a regular priest of the Resurrection Cathedral of the city of Rivne.
On April 15, 2001, he was elevated to the rank of hegumen by the archbishop of Rivne and Ostrog Bartholomew.
On May 11, 2003, during the week of myrrh-bearing women, he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite by the archbishop of Rivne Bartholomew.
January 15, 2004 was assigned to the state with the right to transfer to the Kostroma diocese , according to the submitted petition.
On May 13, 2004, by decree of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Alexy II was appointed governor of the Holy Trinity Ipatiev Monastery of Kostroma [2] .
On August 15, 2004 he was appointed director of the Church Historical and Archaeological Museum of the Kostroma Diocese. It was with the assistance of Archimandrite John that the monastery attracted the restoration of the works of ancient Russian art specialists of the restoration center named after. Grabar [3] .
In June 2011, he graduated from a two-year continuing education course at the Church Graduate School and Doctoral School [4] .
Bishops
On October 5, 2011, by the decision of the Holy Synod, he was elected bishop of Magadan and Sinegorsky [5] .
On October 7, 2011, Patriarch Kirill in the Throne Hall of the Patriarchal chambers of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra was named Bishop of Magadan. [6] October 12, 2011 in the church of St. Alexander Nevsky in Baltiysk was ordained bishop; consecration was performed by Patriarch Kirill, Metropolitan of Saransk and Mordovia Barsanuphius (Sudakov) , Metropolitan of Krasnoyarsk and Achinsky Panteleimon (Kutovoy) , Metropolitan of Rostov and Novocherkassk Mercury (Ivanov) , Archbishop of Vilna and Lithuania Innocent (Vasilyev) , Bishop of Bishop, Bishop Solnechnogorsk Sergius (Chashin) [7] .
On February 1, 2016, in the Moscow Cathedral of Christ the Savior, he was elevated to the rank of archbishop by Patriarch Kirill [8] .
On April 16, 2016, by the decision of the Holy Synod, he was included in the delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church to participate in the Pan-Orthodox Council in 2016 on the Greek island of Crete [9] (he did not participate, due to the refusal of the Moscow Patriarchate to participate in the work of the Council).
