Project
The 1200 Micrograms project was founded by Raja Ram in 1999. TIP World Records started a long relationship with GMS and Raja Ram wanted to form something like a “supergroup” of Bansi and Riktam from GMS, as well as his longtime friend and colleague - Chicago. Chicago has provided significant support to the label since its founding in DJing and writing music, and has also continuously supported Raja Ram for many years. Raja Ram wanted to form a team by bringing all these musicians together in the studio to write interesting new material for TIP World Records. A project was formed in the summer of 1999 at the Triball studio's in Ibiza.
In general, it can be noted that the musicians did not focus on improving the sound, but on penetrating the very essence and energy of music. Now a universally recognized fact is the global scale of their work, and numerous performances are constantly being improved and always warmly received by the public. The only problem for them is finding time to get together in the studio to record new material.
Project participants are Raja Ram [1] , Riktam , Bansi and Chicago . The name 1200 Micrograms was chosen after Raja Ram took 1200 micrograms of LSD while working on the first album of the project in order to overcome difficulties in writing one of the compositions, telling his friend Paul Taylor about it: “God, Paul, I took 1200 micrograms! ”
The idea of the project came to Ram while he was thinking about recording an album dedicated to his favorite psychoactive substances . The first album of the project, which received the same name, contains 9 compositions about such substances as ayahuasca , hashish , mescaline , LSD , marijuana , ecstasy , magic mushrooms , Salvia divinorum and DMT . The album also contains many quotes from the works of Terence McKenna and samples from films, in particular, from the film “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” . The album was very successful, and in 2003 the group released a music video for the composition Marijuana .
To date, the project has released 3 more studio albums - Heroes of the Imagination , The Time Machine and Magic Numbers .
