Registan is a sandy desert in southern Afghanistan . It is limited by the Helmand River in the north and west, the Chagai Mountains in the south, and the Quetto-Pishinsky plateau in the east. It is a gently sloping plain with a wide development of fixed sand ridges, mobile dunes (up to 60 m high) and others. The area is about 40,000 km².

The height of the terrain ranges from 1500 meters in the east to 800 meters in the west. The latitude extent is more than 200 kilometers, and along the meridian up to 200 kilometers. The appearance of the relief is determined by meridional ridges. [1] The climate is subtropical, continental, dry. Precipitation is about 100 mm per year (maximum - in winter and spring). In winter, the temperature drops to 0 ° C, and in the summer it rises to 45 ° C. Frequent hurricane winds, hot air brings masses of salt dust. [1] Rare vegetation: wormwood , ephemera and ephemeroid . Pastoralism: sheep, goats and camels. The population is mainly nomadic (cattle breeders). Along the river valleys and at the foot of the mountains rare oases are found; beds of the largest rivers are accompanied by tugai vegetation. The Afghan-Pakistani border runs along the southwestern edge of the desert.
