Some of the goals for creating the Center for Arts and Media Technologies (ZKM) are:

  • Promotion of projects in the field of new media and new technologies, including video, computer graphics, computer music, animation.
  • Assistance to artists who creatively work with new media and media technologies.
  • Organization of events and promotion of exhibitions for media art presentations.
  • Promotion of dialogue between artists from around the world in the field of conventional and technology-oriented art trends.

Founding Director Heinrich Klotz defined in 1992 ZKM as follows:

“The Center has a task to find out the creative possibilities of connections between traditional arts and media technologies in order to win and predict results in advance. Enrichment of the arts, not just "technical amputation" is the goal. Therefore, traditional arts and media art should not be measured against each other. Both sides have - both for themselves and for each other - a place in ZKM for interaction. Founded in 1919 in Weimar, Bauhaus can be considered a model and role model. [one]
