After leaving school in 1949 he entered the Leningrad Technological Institute. Lensoviet , which he graduated in 1954.
He began his scientific activity in 1954 at the Institute of Construction, Architecture and Building Materials of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR , first renamed the Kazakh branch of the Academy of Construction and Architecture of the USSR, and then the Research and Design Institute of Building Materials (NIIstromproekt).
He worked as a researcher, head of the laboratory, and then for more than 30 years - deputy director for science.
In 1962, Kuatbaev at the Moscow Institute of Chemical Technology DI. Mendeleev defended his thesis , and in 1982 - his doctoral dissertation .
In 1984 he was awarded the academic title of professor , in 1995 he was elected an academician of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
