The station consists of three power units: the first - BWR-1 (with a capacity of 250 MW, the second and third - BWR-72. The first power unit was laid back in 1962, and launched in 1967, the second and third reactors - only in 1984 and 1985, respectively They are similar in design to Fukushima reactors, with a total station capacity of 1344 MW at the moment.
The second power unit was shut down on December 31, 2017 in accordance with the law on the rejection of nuclear energy. The stop of the third power unit should take place in 2021. Such short operating periods are associated with the accident at the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant and the subsequent movement among a large part of the Germans against the use of nuclear energy in the country. As a result, Germany withdrew from the top 10 countries in the world in the number of operating reactors. Currently, seven of them remain in the Federal Republic of Germany. By 2022, all nuclear power plants in Germany should be shut down.
The NPP operator is Kernkraftwerk Gundremmingen GmbH (KGG), and the owners are RWE Power AG (75%) and E.ON Kernkraft GmbH (25%).
