Located on the banks of the Tatar Strait . The rivers Parusnaya and Belaya flow through the village.

History
Until 1945, it was part of the Japanese governorate of Karafuto and was called Odasu ( Jap. 小田 洲 ) . After the transfer of South Sakhalin to the USSR, the village on October 15, 1947 received its modern name - by its position at the foot of the mountain of the same name [6] .

According to the 2002 census, the population is 230 people (121 men, 109 women). The predominant nationality is Russian (91%). [2]
