The East European Institute of Psychoanalysis is a non-governmental educational institution in St. Petersburg that provides education in the field of psychoanalysis [1] .

VEIP is the first higher educational institution of this profile in Russia that provides full-scale psychological and psychoanalytic training, including psychoanalytic education, personal psychoanalytic training (own analysis), as well as supervisory support for the beginning of practical psychotherapeutic activity [2] .

Content

The institute is accredited not only by educational supervisory authorities, but also by the American Association for Accreditation in Psychoanalysis (NAAP), the European Confederation of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (ECPP), the Russian Psychological Society , the Professional Psychotherapeutic League (PPL) and several other authoritative organizations [2] [3] .

History

The Institute was founded in 1991 . Initially it was called the Institute of Medical and Psychological Problems of Psychoanalytic Orientation, then the Institute of Medical and Psychological Problems (Institute of Psychoanalysis) [1] . In 1994, reorganized as the "East European Institute of Psychoanalysis" (EIEP). Rector - Mikhail Mikhailovich Reshetnikov [1] .

The initiative to create and develop the institute was supported by well-known scientists of the city of St. Petersburg - professors M. S. Kagan , V. S. Lobzin, E. V. Sokolov, G. F. Sunyagin, as well as an outstanding Russian scientist and public figure, academician D. S. Likhachev [2] .

The personal appeal of Academician D. S. Likhachev [2] to the President of the Russian Federation led to the fact that in 1996 B. N. Yeltsin issued a Decree deciding to “Support the initiative of the East European Institute of Psychoanalysis, approved by the SCFD for Higher Education, the Ministry of Education , the Ministry of Science , Ministry of Health , RAS , RAO , RAMS , aimed at the revival and development of philosophical, clinical and applied psychoanalysis . " [4] During the work of the institute, more than 2500 specialists from all CIS countries and a number of other states underwent training and retraining in it [5] .

By 2011, graduates of the Institute created more than 70 psychotherapeutic and counseling centers in Russia and abroad, including Australia , Holland , Spain , the USA , France and other countries [3] .

On October 14, 2016, Rosobrnadzor deprived the East European Institute of Psychoanalysis of state accreditation [6] .

Educational Activities

Full-scale psychological and psychoanalytic training of a specialist includes [7] :

  • psychoanalytic education,
  • personal psychoanalytic training (own analysis),
  • Supervisory support for the beginning of practical psychotherapeutic activity.

Training is conducted in the afternoon, evening and distance forms. At the institute, you can get the first and second higher education in the direction of “Psychology”. Persons without age restrictions are admitted to the institute. Duration of training is from 1 year to 6 years, tuition is paid [1] .

For people who already have higher education, the Institute offers the following types of education:

  • Master's program: Psychology under the master's programs Philosophical, Clinical and Applied Psychoanalysis or Psychoanalysis and Psychology of Management and Personnel Management;
  • obtaining a second higher education, a bachelor's degree in "Psychology", a training profile - "Psychoanalysis";
  • for certified psychologists and people with a medical education, the opportunity is given to study under the master's program or the program of additional education “Psychoanalysis”.

Annually, 10-20 leading Western experts from Europe and America give lectures at the Institute, and all these lectures, seminars and clinical studies are provided to students outside the schedule [3] .

The institute has an open specialized psychoanalytic library with a reading room and an electronic fund [3] , the Freud Dream Museum , included in the catalogs of St. Petersburg museums [2] [3] . There is also a training and therapeutic center for psychoanalysis that performs two functions: on the one hand, students at the Center undergo their own analysis and consult with more experienced, specially trained colleagues during their practical work, on the other, everyone can get qualified psychotherapeutic help here [7] .

Community Activities

Since 2003, VEIP has been acting as a permanent advisory center to the Council of the Federation of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Emergencies of the Russian Federation . The Institute also developed a number of proposals for the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation , subsequently implemented in the form of instructions of the president to the Government of the Russian Federation [2] .

On the basis of the institute, an annual Assembly of Psychotherapists and Consulting Psychologists is held in St. Petersburg, regular congresses of psychotherapists in the Northwestern Federal District and other all-Russian and regional professional events [2] .

The first Russian Institute of Psychoanalysis has received wide national and international recognition. In 2008, VEIP Rector M. M. Reshetnikov became the first Russian specialist in the history of psychoanalysis to be elected president of the international professional community - the European Confederation of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy ( Vienna , Austria ); he is also a member of the boards of leading Russian and international professional associations and editorial boards of several international publications [2] .
