Biography

Born in 1826 in the city of Kotel ( Bulgaria ), the son of a priest. He received his primary education at the Greek School of Constantinople . Then he moved to Russia , graduated from the 2nd Kiev gymnasium and took a course in mathematics at Kiev University .

At the beginning of the Crimean War, Kishelsky entered voluntarily in the Russian army and was assigned to the headquarters of the troops in Crimea as a translator. During the Sevastopol Defense, he was under General Khrulev and on May 27, 1855, for military distinctions, he was promoted to ensign with enlistment in the army infantry. In the same year he was awarded the orders of St. Anne 4th degree and 3rd degree with swords.

Since 1858, Kishelsky served in the troops in the Caucasus and repeatedly took part in campaigns against the highlanders . On October 13, 1862, he was awarded the Golden Dragoon Saber with the inscription "For Courage . " Then he served in Odessa and was involved in the organization of detachments from Bulgarian emigrants.

Since 1876, Kishelsky was in Romania and was collecting intelligence data on the state of the Turkish armed forces in Bulgaria, participated in the creation of the Bulgarian princely society in Brailov . Then he drew up the “Project of an Immortal Society”, which was the political program for the liberation of Bulgaria from the rule of the Turks, and also published the first Bulgarian military-theoretical essay “Guide for a successful battle with Turzite” ( Bucharest , 1876).

Just before the start of the Russian-Turkish war, he was among the organizers of the Bulgarian militia squads. With the outbreak of war, he led a separate reconnaissance detachment of Bulgarian militias and was promoted to colonel on June 16, 1877. After the war he served in the Provisional Russian Directorate in Bulgaria and was at the disposal of the Imperial Russian Commissioner in Bulgaria. Produced on January 1, 1879 as Major General Kishelsky, he was soon appointed Governor of Vidin and then Varna .

He died suddenly in 1880.
