Malakhov and Grigorovich

With Yuri Grigorovich , the long-time artistic director of the Bolshoi Theater , Malakhov met several times in his life. When Malakhov was eighteen, Grigorovich told him: "I would have taken you, but you do not have a Moscow residence permit." For six years, Malakhov danced all the leading parties in the classical ballet theater of Natalya Kasatkina : Swan Lake, Natalie, Beethoven's Appassionata, Fairy Kiss, and Swiss Thrush. He won the Grand Prix in Varna in the youth group of ballet performers. At the next meeting, Grigorovich said: "We will think about your transfer to the Bolshoi Theater."

During this time, Malakhov won the “gold” at the All-Union Ballet Competition, in 1989 the Grand Prix in Paris and the first prize at the Moscow International Ballet Competition. Then Grigorovich said: “Now the time has come for you at the Bolshoi Theater .” To which Malakhov answered him: “But for me it is too late” [5] .
