The death of Nikulin caused great concern of the journalistic community.

We, journalists working in Tajikistan, are deeply shocked by the death of our colleague, ORT correspondent Viktor Nikulin. For many years of professional activity in the “hot spot”, which has been Tajikistan for six years, we have realized that each of us can become a target for hired killers any day, for those who are scared by the truthful information about the events taking place in the republic. We will never come to terms with the attempts and desire of criminals, unscrupulous bureaucrats and politicians to dictate their conditions to the media. Above our safety and well-being, we have always appreciated and will continue to value honest service to our duty - to bring people the words of truth, for this is the only way we can help our homeland, our long-suffering people! We want to hope that the murderers of Viktor Nikulin will be found and put on trial. However, we cannot but be alarmed that not a single investigation into the death of a media worker in Tajikistan has been completed, no performer or customer of such a crime has ever responded in accordance with the law. Taking this opportunity, we appeal to President of the Republic E. Rakhmonov, heads of law enforcement agencies, demanding an end to this practice of unpunished massacre of journalists. We also appeal to all the warring parties in the inter-Tajik conflict to adopt a moratorium on all forms of violent acts, including against journalists. By transmitting information, preparing reports, publishing articles, we fulfill our professional and civic duty, which under no circumstances should become an occasion for physical and moral reprisal against us. We are sure that without the daily and objective work of the press, television and radio, peace will ultimately not reign on the land of Tajikistan, and our people will not find peace and prosperity. Mourning all the journalists who died in Tajikistan, not dividing them into right and wrong and expressing our protest in connection with the violent death of Viktor Nikulin, we announce April 5-12. For these seven days, editorial offices of republican and city newspapers suspend the publication of their publications, correspondents of foreign media accredited in Tajikistan stop transmitting any information about Tajikistan through their channels within three days - April 5, 6, 7. We hope that we will be supported and understood by all those who cherish the bright and peaceful future of their native Tajik land, all those who are tired of bloody lawlessness and rampant crime, of insecurity in the future.

We, journalists working in Tajikistan, mourn with our friend and colleague Mikhail Nikulin and sincerely share with him the grief of the loss of his only son Victor. The memory of the handsome guy and talented journalist Viktor Nikulin will forever remain in our hearts. "
