An old noble family from the Margrave of Brandenburg, who in the XIX century owned large estates in Saxony and Schleswig. Among the members of this family name were bishops, scholars, theologians, professors and statesmen.
The ancestors of the two lines of the Beist family were two brothers: Joachim Friedrich (1696-1771), the eldest nobleman, and Karl Leopold [1] , who was elevated to the rank of count in 1777, the younger count line. The grandson of the first, Frederick (d. In 1840) was a Saxon Oberhofergertschrat and from his marriage with the daughter of a Saxon minister von Karlovitz (d. 1806) left two sons: Konstantin von Beist (1806–1891) and the famous Friedrich-Ferdinand [2] , Count von Beist (1809–1886), the founder of the newest count house.
The head of the former line of Counts Beist was Friedrich-German (1813–1889), son of Count Karl-Leopold, Marshal of Saxe-Weimar, Lieutenant General and Adjutant General of the Grand Duke.
