Biography
Born on April 14, 1918 in the village of Kulangir, now in the Sogd region of the Republic of Tajikistan, in a peasant family. Tajik . He worked as a tractor driver on a collective farm .
In the Red Army since 1941. He fought on the Western , Bryansk , Central , 1st Belorussian fronts . At first he was a machine gunner. In 1942, becoming the gunner of a 45 mm gun, in the battles near the city, Zhizdra Akhmedov knocked out two tanks.
In 1943, Akhmedov graduated from sergeant courses and was sent to the cavalry and appointed commander of the mortar crew. Notable for very well-aimed firing from all types of weapons. In the fall of 1943, Akhmedov also mastered the anti-tank gun.
In January 1944, the liberation of Belarusian Polesie began . At one of the positions near the village of Besedki, waiting for an enemy tank attack, Akhmedov, adjusting the usual wheel from a cart to a tree, managed to bring down the enemy Junkers from this platform from an anti-tank rifle during the next raid.
On January 14, 1944, at the village of Bagrimovichi, two enemy infantry battalions, reinforced by tanks, counterattacked the positions occupied by cavalrymen. Artillery shells ricocheted off the Tigers without harming them. Then Akhmedov crawled to the side and threw the Tiger armor-piercing bullet in the side. On the same day, he shot down another assault weapon of the enemy. For these "jackals" (Akhmedov called all the enemy equipment "jackals") he received the Order of Glory of the III degree.
Soon Akhmedov distinguished himself again. In one of the attacks, a foot squadron broke into the enemy’s position. Enemies took refuge in the second trench, from where he began to beat a machine gun, not allowing to raise their heads. Akhmedov invented a trick. He, with his second number, like a mole in several hours dug a long passage under the snow. When the comrades began to wear helmets on sticks over the trenches, the machine gun spoke again and gave out its whereabouts. From a new position, Akhmedov destroyed a machine gun with several shots. At this time, the Hitlerite company mortar spoke. Again, Akhmedov had to dig a passage in the snow at night. At dawn, Hitler's mortar crew was destroyed.
The 17th Guards Cavalry Division, advancing in the direction of Mozyr and Kalinkovichi , approached the Pripyat River , covered with thin ice. Having chopped up the vines and watering it with water, the cavalrymen built a strong ice shell and, crossing the river along it, burst into enemy trenches, capturing a small bridgehead. Soon, enemy tanks went to the bridgehead. Akhmedov pierced the side of the Nazi machine with the first shot. After he knocked out the second tank, the others turned back.
In the spring of 1944, cavalrymen received an order - on foot, to secretly break into the rear of the enemy, cut off the railway along which the Nazis took manpower and loot from Polesie. Having walked many kilometers through the swampy marshes, Akhmedov and his comrades took up a position at the edge of the forest near the embankment. Soon a large enemy squad appeared. Akhmedov aptly sent an armor-piercing bullet into the boiler. The locomotive exploded and fell off the rails, dragging cars along with it. Crawling closer, Akhmedov from a machine gun, and comrades from machine guns, destroyed the Nazi guards and captured six.
In the summer of 1944, Operation Bagration began. By the end of July 1944, Soviet troops crossed the Polish border. In these battles, Akhmedov knocked out a Tiger, an assault gun, several cars, destroying many Nazis from a machine gun.
In the battle for the Polish city of Lukow, Akhmedov’s calculation captured the enemy’s bunker . Four daredevils had to grapple with the eleven Nazis. Surprise, onslaught, well-aimed grenade throws helped out. Akhmedov was wounded, but did not leave the battlefield.
Under the town of Siedlce , Sabelnikov’s cavalry platoon was surrounded. The commander was seriously wounded, the deputy was killed. Sergeant Akhmedov took command. Two tanks marched on the surrounded cavalrymen, behind the infantry. In less than five minutes, both cars were enveloped in puffs of smoke after the well-aimed shots of Akhmedov. The cavalrymen held on for another three hours, until our tankmen came to the rescue.
On July 30, 1944, in a battle in the city of Siedlce, Akhmedov took up a position in the basement of a dilapidated building. From an armor-piercing rifle, he managed to knock out one assault gun, threw a grenade at the Tiger. In this battle, Akhmedov was seriously injured. On the evening of July 30, 1944, the “tiger hunter” (Akhmedov’s title from the front-line newspaper) of the Guard, Sergeant Fatullah Akhmedov, died.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the exemplary execution of the combat missions of command on the front of the struggle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown to them, Fatulla Akhmedov was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
