The nuclear power plant has 4 power units equipped with Areva P4 water-water reactors with an electrical capacity of 1363 MW . Technical water supply is provided from the Loire .
NPP staff is about 620 employees. The operating organization of the station is Électricité de France .
Incidents
In 1989, cracks were detected in 25 mm impulse tube fittings on CDs at a number of power units in France’s nuclear power plants based on PWR with an electric capacity of 1300 MW developed by Electricite de France.
Defects, the severity of which is assessed by level 2 of the INES six-point scale , are present on all tested units. In particular, a circular crack was discovered at Unit 1 of the Belleville NPP, which could lead to a leak from the 1st circuit.
Considering that at the 900 MW PWR NPPs, where the impulse tubes were made of stainless steel, there were no such defects, the cause of defects in this case was recognized as intergranular stress corrosion cracking of tubes made of Inconel-600 alloy. The company promptly repaired the detected defects, and in the next 2 years planned to replace all impulse tubes with more reliable ones made of stainless steel or Inconel-690 alloy [1] .
