Sports career
He started boxing at the age of 15. Having won the national championship among juniors in the weight category up to 67 kg, he goes on to train in the Dynamo team (Bucharest).
At the age of 19, he became the bronze medalist of the Summer Olympics in Rome (1960). In Tokyo (1964) was only the fifth, but four years later in Mexico City (1968) wins silver. In the semifinal battle against the Pole, Stanislav Dragan broke Monet’s nose, and he couldn’t get into a decisive fight with the Soviet boxer Dan Pozdnyak .
In 1961-1963 won the Balkan championship. He won silver at European championships: in Moscow (1963) and Bucharest (1969), bronze in Rome (1967). He was the 11-time champion of Romania - 1960-1964 (2nd average weight), 1965-1970 (light heavyweight).
In 1971, he completed his career and worked as a coach at Dynamo Bucharest. In 2000 he was awarded the Order “For Faithful Service” (“Serviciul Credincios”) I degree.
