Biography
Born on July 28, 1928 in the village of Suistamo, which at that time was part of Finland (in 1944, was transferred to the USSR ).
In 1953 he got married. In 1954 he graduated from an Orthodox seminary and in the same year he was consecrated consecrated ordination to a deacon and a priest .
In 1962, widowed. In the same year he graduated from the St. Sergius Theological Institute in Paris . Completed his theological education at the University of Oulu , receiving a bachelor’s and bachelor ’s degree in philosophy.
From 1955 to 1964 he worked as a teacher of the Orthodox Law of God in schools in the parish of Kuopio .
From 1964 to 1967 he was rector of the church in honor of St. mch Queen Alexandra in the Orthodox parish of the city of Turku , and from 1967 to 1968 he worked in the general church notarial service.
From 1968 to 1984 he was rector of the Orthodox parish in Oulu .
In 1984 he was elected and, after being tonsured as a monk in the Novo-Valaam Monastery , on May 26 of the same year he was ordained by the Bishop of Joensuu , Vicar of the Karelian Eparchy .
Since March 17, 1988 - Metropolitan of Helsinki .
In 1990 he defended his doctoral thesis at the University of Joensuu on the topic “Freedom and Philosophical Thinking in the Time of Nikolai Berdyaev ”.
On September 15, 1990, in the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral of the Year of Tallinn, he participated in the episcopal consecration of Cornelius (Jacobs) as Bishop of Tallinn [1] .
May 14, 1996 [2] was forced to retire due to cancer . He spent all the years of treatment in the city of Kuopio , where he died on August 2, 2000.
He taught the Law of God at school and lectured at the seminary , and for a short time was abbot of the Finnish Orthodox parish in Stockholm ( Sweden ). Author of numerous articles and publications, as well as the literary editor of the publishing council.
