History
Since the mid-18th century, Anzen has been a major center for coal mining. The city housed the Anzen Coal Company (Compagnie des mines d'Anzin), founded in 1757 and lasting until 1946, when it was nationalized. In Anzen and its environs, there are large metallurgical plants, engineering and energy enterprises, and glass and beer production.
