Salmon Creek Dam ( Salmon Creek - Salmon Stream) in Alaska
Arch dam - a type of dam made of concrete , reinforced concrete or masonry . Unlike gravitational and arch-gravitational , to ensure the stability of this type of dam, it is not the weight of the structure itself that is used, but only the arched structure that transfers the load from the reservoir to the coast [1] .
To increase the strength of such dams, an arched shape in horizontal section is used with approximately the same radius of curvature throughout the dam body, directed by the bulge towards the reservoir formed by the dam [2] .
As a rule, they are constructed in mountainous terrain with a canyon-like relief in the vicinity of the hydroelectric complex [2] .
