History
Islam in Libya appeared in the eighth century along with the Arab conquerors. The conquerors brought Sunni Islam. Islam and the Arabic language quickly took root, and already in the tenth century, Libya was Arabic-speaking and Muslim. Until now, the Libyans are Muslims.

Role in society
Islam in Libya is the state religion. The Quran (along with the Green Book) is the basis of laws in Libya. But at the same time in Libya there is practically no discrimination against women, they have ample opportunities. This was made possible thanks to the policy of Muammar Gaddafi. Gaddafi himself was a Muslim believer, but he was married to one wife, because he believed that a single wife was enough for a man.
