He was born in Hertfordshire in southeastern England . The son of an Australian.
In 1961, at the age of 20, with a government subsidy, he emigrated to Australia , where he opened his own photo studio in Melbourne .
He performed original photographs of The Beatles when he arrived in Australia in 1964. Despite his controversy, and perhaps thanks to her, his pioneering work provided him with leadership in the boiling activity of London . [3]
He photographed the concerts of The Beatles in New York at the Shea Stadium and the ensemble's last world tour in 1966. During this time, he was always ready to capture the performers in a more informal setting.
A highly controversial photo-episode was placed on the cover of the album's release in New York. The most common explanation for its appearance is that it was a Beatles ensemble protest against Capitol Records for an allegedly “slaughter” of their recordings in the United States . Robert Whitaker said it was “hard work” to create an episode of the massacre when members of the Beatles ensemble were in white coats. He also added: “A lot has been invested in this photo.” This image was repeatedly published in the music press, after which it was deleted due to "bad taste." [four]
Robert Whitaker collaborated as a photographer with Vogue Magazine and photographed the Vietnam War and the Cambodian War for Time Magazine . He also documented the military conflict between Pakistan and Bangladesh in the 1970s.
At the end of his career, Robert Whitaker worked on a digital archive of all the work he completed.
Robert Whitaker died on September 20, 2011 after a long illness, leaving his wife a widow with three children.
