The album was released on December 17, 1996 by the label “TVT Records”. The album contains 11 tracks, most of which sounded in the film, as well as a fragment of the instrumental composition “Trouble In Woodsboro / Sidney's Lament”, written by Marco Beltrami . Alice Cooper’s song “ School's Out ” sounds in the film in the school’s closing scene, but the cover of the band “The Last Hard Men” hit the album. Gus Black performed the acoustic version of the famous Blue Öyster Cult hit, the song “Don't Fear The Reaper” - music plays in a scene between Sidney and Billy. Analyst Jeff Smith characterized the choice of composition as follows:
| An ironic note to the shocking introduction of the film. Most importantly, choosing a song in a given scene gives a literal meaning to the lyrics. Although in the composition the Reaper is a symbol of death, the focus is on the person who not only dresses in the Reaper of Death, but also becomes one for many heroes. The irony here, of course, is that Billy is one of two maniacs who terrorized the city of Woodsboro. And in fact, it is worth fearing. [one] |
The song "Red Right Hand" performed by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds sounds in all three films of the trilogy, but does not appear in the movie " Scream 4 ". In addition, for the movie "Scream 3" Nick Cave recorded a new version of the song, which many call the "musical sequel ." The clip for the song “Drop Dead Gorgeous” from the Republica group’s repertoire shows fragments from the film - the video was shown on many music channels, including MTV , but the song itself was not included in the official soundtrack. In addition, the song is used in the TV spots of the film.
The album was not successful, showing poor results in the Billboard 200 . [2] Allmusic assigned 3 out of 5 to the album. [3]

The album, entitled “Scream / Scream 2” [4], was released by Varèse Sarabande on July 14, 1998. The disc contained compositions written by Marco Beltrami for the first and second films. The release is far from complete and contains only 9 tracks played in the second film: Stage Fright Requiem, Love Turns Sour, Cici Creepies, Deputy for a Friend, Hollow Parting, Dewpoint / Stabbed , Hairtrigger Lunatic, Sundown Search, and It's Over, Sid. Their total duration was only 17 minutes, given the fact that compositions for the film were written with a total duration of about 90 minutes. In addition, the average duration of official releases with instrumental compositions for films is 30-45 minutes. [four]
The album lacks the track "Cassandra Aria", written by composer Danny Elfman . A critic from the famous browser site Filmtracks.Com called the song “a three-minute frantic masterpiece of choral music.” [5] According to critics, such a “poor” release is due to the fact that for a more complete publication of copyright works, producers would have to pay a high fee. [four]
Beltarmi's works for the trilogy feel the influence of such composers as Hans Zimmer , Elliot Goldenenthal , Ennio Morricone and Christopher Young . In addition, the film uses the compositions “Brothers” and “Secure”, written by Zimmer for the film “ Broken Arrow, ” - guitarist Dwayne Eddy took part in the recording of the tracks. These two tunes became the main musical theme of the character of Dewey Riley and sound in the scenes of Riley and Gale, as well as in front of the song “She Said” playing during the final credits.
Critics appreciated Beltrami's professional growth by comparing the work on this film and the first part, but in their opinion, the main merit of the film in terms of music was the work of Hans Zimmer and "Cassandra's Aria" written by Danny Elfman . Meanwhile, the Dewey character melody written by Beltarmi was replaced with Zimmer’s music, considering it to be more “catchy”. The absence of Elfman's track especially causes a feeling of incompleteness of the album. As a result, the soundtrack was rated 2.5 out of 5. [5] AllMusic’s reviewer wrote that Beltrami’s music “ideally reflected the post-modernist mood of the Cries series” - 3 out of 5 stars were assigned to the album. [6]
