Biography
Born in 1936 in Leningrad in a sports family. He studied at the Leningrad Institute of Aviation Instrumentation , which he graduated with honors. In 1957, being a graduate of the training group at GOMZ (now LOMO ), he received an invitation to the B class “Burevestnik” team, and two years later - to “Zenit”. But in the “Zenith” failed to gain a foothold. Gusev spent several years in the Tallinn team, and then played for the Leningrad Dynamo for five seasons. He played as a defender , was awarded the title of master of sports [1] . After completing his football career, Gusev received a second degree and defended his thesis, becoming a candidate of pedagogical sciences.
In the 1970s, he began working in television. The distinguishing features of Gusev-commentator were a soft, trusting voice, intelligence, a good understanding of the game.
In August 1990, the Leningrad city football club Zenit was registered. Vladislav Gusev was elected its president. Gusev hoped that his authority would help the newborn club, but in the conditions of the most difficult economic situation in the city and country, the unreliability of sponsors and the dishonesty of the founders of normal work, he failed. They began to accuse him of the lack of a "business vein" and the inability to prevent a crisis in the team. There was a conflict between President Gusev and the then Zenit head coach Yury Morozov , after which Morozov was fired. The scandalous episode after the guest game with Voronezh “Torch” in 1992, when Zenit footballer Alimjon Rafikov hit his own president, was the apotheosis of internal tension in the team. In 1992, after Zenit flew out of the Higher League, Vladislav Gusev was fired. He was replaced by Leonid Tufrin. Despite the overall sad result of the work, Gusev managed to prevent the collapse of the team, which at that time was quite real, and save a whole generation of young football players who returned in the mid-90s to the elite national league.
Gusev continued to work as a sports journalist and commentator. In 1994, he worked at the World Cup in the USA , where he commented, in particular, on the famous match Russia-Cameroon. Later he worked on Petersburg television as a commentator and presenter of sports programs. He also was engaged in teaching activities as an assistant professor of the Department of Football and Hockey at the Institute of Physical Education. Lesgaft
