The F c -receptor is a protein located on the surface of several types of cells of the immune system ( natural killer cells , macrophages , neutrophils and mast cells ) and is involved in its protective reactions.
The name of the receptor indicates its specific recognition and binding to a fragment of the antibody molecule, called F c . The F c receptor binds to antibodies that attach to the surface of infected cells or pathogens . After binding to antibodies, receptors activate phagocytic or cytotoxic activity of cells to destroy microbes or infected cells by antibody-dependent phagocytosis or antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity . Some viruses (for example, members of the Flaviviridae family) use F c receptors when cells are infected by increasing antibody-dependent infection [1] .
