In the draft of the National Hockey League of 1969 he was selected by the Montreal Canadiens club under the first number. He played in the “Canadians” for 11 seasons (1969/70 - 1972/73, 1976/77 - 1982/83). He won five Stanley Cups with the team. He spent three seasons at the World Hockey Association with Quebec Nordics (1973 / 74-1975 / 76). As part of the Canadian national team, he was a member of the USSR Super Series - Canada in 1974 . In 1975, he was recognized as the best player in the All-Union All-Union Military Aviation All-Star Game in Edmonton. From 1995 to 2000, he was General Manager of Montreal Canadiens.
