Korea K-Pop Hot 100 is the music singles chart of Korea . The hit parade was launched by Billboard magazine and its regional edition Billboard Korea on August 25, 2011. The hit parade is based on the calculation of digital sales of musical singles in South Korea [1]
Billboard Music Chart Director Silvio Pietroluongo said that “the launch of the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 chart is an important step because the chart will provide the Korean music market, in our opinion, with the most accurate and relevant song rating” [1] . He also added that the company is pleased to see the appearance of the “world-famous Hot 100 brand in Korea” and plans to introduce new Korean charts within the framework of Billboard [1] .
The first single No. 1 in the history of the hit parade was the song “ So Cool ” by Sistar (August 25, 2011) [2] .
The hit parade ceased to be published on the Billboard website since May 17, 2014, and on July 16 the latest release of the chart in the Korean version of Billboard was released. According to Gary Trust, responsible for the Billboard charts, the hit parade has not ceased to exist, the break in the chart’s functioning is temporary, during which time its functioning mechanism will be reworked [3] .
At the end of May 2017, the functioning of the chart resumed [4] ; charts began to appear on the Billboard website since December 20, 2017 along with the restart of the Billboard Korea website on Billboard.co.kr [5] .
