It was originally planned to begin showing the show at the end of May 2011 , but the premiere took place on June 12, 2011 . In Canada, the series appeared on the Slice channel since June 26, beginning with a two-hour premiere - in the first part, viewers watched the selection process of the contestants. In the UK, the series appeared on Sky One on July 14, 2011 .
The executive producers of the series, Ryan Murphy and Dante Di Loreto, also took on these responsibilities in the project, and casting director Robert Ulrich was also looking for potential participants in the show. [1] [2]
Damian McGinty and Samuel Larsen won the first season. Lindsay Pierce and Alex Newell also won roles in the series, and Cameron Mitchell, who left the project in the 7th episode, became the “favorite of the audience” and received a prize of $ 10 thousand. [3] Pierce appeared in the series as Harmony in the first and eighth episodes of the third season of The Purple Piano Project and Hold on to Sixteen , and Damian appeared in the fourth episode of Pot O 'Gold and the following. Larsen and Newell take part in the filming of the second half of the third season [4] .
Second season winner Blake Jenner got the role of Ryder Lynn in the series (starting from the episode " The Role You Were Born to Play "), and runner-up Ali Stroker appeared in the episode "I Do."
Content
Competition
Each episode consists of several stages of preparation for the competition:
- Homework
- Participants receive a task in the form of one song, which must be prepared for execution. At the beginning of each episode, the participant performs it before the “invited judge” - one of the actors of the series “Chorus”. The winner receives the right to an individual conversation with the actor, as well as the main role in the music video.
- Video (group performance)
- Participants shoot a music video based on the series "Chorus". They record their parts in the studio under the direction of producer Nikki Anders. The choreography is directed by Zack Woodley and / or his assistant Brooke Lipton. The casting director, Robert Ulrich, oversees the process.
- Invitation
- During this period, viewers will learn the names of the three participants with the lowest rates. The flaws are discussed by Robert Ulrich and Zach Woodley (whom Nikki Anders replaced in episode 8). The judges then select the song for the participants to perform, which will help them improve the results.
- The last chance
- The three worst performing members perform songs in front of Ryan Murphy. With the participation of Woodley and Ulrich, he decides which of these three will leave the project.
- Last invitation
- Unlike many similar reality shows, the participant does not directly report their involuntary departure. They will learn the decision of the judges from the list of past ones in the next episode. At this stage, the retired performs the song “ Keep Holding On ” from the repertoire of Avril Lavigne .
